oh there you are ;) ok..i left yall hanging, but i have returned with lots of happenings. this past weekend my dad drove through on a business trip, and spent the night with us. it is funny to hear how much my parents [who see hudson about once a month] say how much he has grown. since we see him everyday it is harder for us to notice. he was impressed that hudson is a roll over pro and has crazy good head control. he even can sit up with out assistance for a short while [this is a brand new trick].
i remember thinking before kids when i would hear parents talk about mile stones...ZZzzzzz...blah.
but now i get it. it is so crazy that they just wake up and decide to to something new. it is amazing.
what else is amazing... the cracktastic pasta that i made for dinner on saturday. try it. easy. yuengling didn't hurt
we also started sleep training mainly because his naps during the day were so inconsistent. he would want to be rocked, nurse, walked ect. which was and still is so cute, but lil hud is getting pretty heavy for momma..so we decided better break habits now [for the both of us]. we used the controlled time crying technique and it has really worked. now he plays/self soothes himself to sleep during nap times, and is taking much longer more restful naps. he also now likes to sleep on his tummy.
i can check off a few things on the list:
1. shelves project - update...i have measured and drawn up plans..now just construction left
2. build bench...legs purchased just have to find wood
3. cut down rug/buy new rug
4. frame artwork - check
5. restore tables [coffee table + occasional table] - check
here is the finished product of the occasional table. i decided after sanding to paint the table instead of re-staining. i would have had to re-stain the table close to the original stain [very close to the floor color] and i wanted more contrast..not finished being staged [imagine those gold frames hanging above]. it is a blue/green number..custom mixed valspar paint. i love it.
and at last here is my pretty little coffee table that was saved at a local flea market. she rests in my keeping room which ill be talking about soon on this blog. here she is also on a popular home decorating magazine cover..all she needed was a little brasso and tarn-x
this is a in progress picture. i need to get a picture of the final product, but will just have to leave that for the keeping room posts.
happy tuesday! hudson is off to gigi and pop's [mr. b's parents] & we are going out with some friends..dirty martini please. extra dirty

friday spy
for anyone. anyone who is in need of a table. i am trying to convince myself and mr. b that we do..please snatch this gem up. she adds major texture and contrast with the juxtaposition of the glass and wood plus all around coolness to any space. if you are looking to break out of the matchy matchy set of living room furniture that you might have inherited or that you bought real quick once you got your first job..this would be your ticket. plus look how affordable she is..compared to retail prices. and you can use a shipping carrier like uship to get her delivered.
retail $1365.00 kingston driftwood cocktail table
craigslist atl $250.00!! go.now.get.her
if you have access to the right supplies + great wood [which we do up here in KY...so i might try to build my own] you could get crafty and make a one of a kind... wallis, a friend from high school is on this very mission herself. check her blog out.
have a great weekend friends

getting busy
things that need doing. go
alright..i figure if i share my project 'to do' list..i might be held accountable to get some things finished around here. so i spent the morning taking photos of some areas that need some attention while these twoassisted rested.
after making my list i had a bit of a panic attack! really that long! so did the mr. b...all he thought was $$$$. i don't blame him because we do have important things to be thinking of like student loans, rental home upcoming costs, surgery bills, ect. to make it less daunting for the both of us i decided to do a top 5, and then when it is completed ill start another. hope it works. i plan to share my progress with you as i check them off the list. so here they are...now time to get busy.
the list:
1. shelves project... new solution to this post
2. build bench...legs purchased just have to find wood
3. cut down rug/buy new rug
4. frame artwork..samples have been ordered
5. restore tables [coffee table + occasional table]
so today we are starting to plan [it takes some math] the shelves for the living room, and i'm headed to lowes to buy the materials i will need to refinish this occasional table. which is on the calendar to be completed this weekend.

i got this table for $30.00 [much better then the $300.00 price at most retail stores], and although the original plan was to paint it i have decided to strip the piece and restore the wood. we will see how it goes. the table will stay in this awkward corner at the top of our stairwell then over it and down the staircase we are going to create a family picture wall with old photos [pictures of everyone..grandparents..parents..siblings] in their 20's-30's of everyone in both b and my family in gold frames. hopefully will look something like this..source unknown
although seeing this photo makes me want to paint the table orange...humm.
glad to almost be over that hump friends!

well the day got away from us! i spent most of the day cleaning like a mad woman [like deep spring cleaning] i tend to do this once a month. starts out as just a quick vacuum and turns into toothbrush and bleach to our window seals kind of clean. the rest of the day was full of snuggling, playing, and loving on the lil dude.
also..4 months is great

friends
the eddy's visited. we love visitors and we had a great weekend spending time with derrick, lindsey, and grayson. we knew the eddy's from memphis, and miss spending time with them. i know people say this all the time, but it is amazing how fast little ones grow. i seriously felt like it was yesterday that we were holding tiny little grayson at mellow mushroom.
now she is a vibrant strong beautiful 2 year old! she
definitely helped us know what we have to expect come baby proofing
time..but she was such a good kid and provided lots of entertainment to
hudson. i was amazed at how easy it was for them to get grayson to
sleep..they are pros! hopefully, when hud hits the 2's we will be able to do that. here
are a few pictures from the visit
it was a great visit, and we are recharged and ready for the week.
i have a few surprises for tomorrow's post. a killer cookie recipe! which i made for my bunco ladies tonight...plus a etagere update, and my next big and little project.
enjoy your monday

january 2010 |
i tested out my kitchen skills...the eddy's are some of ok most people know that i was never a fan of cooking or baking..lindsey even gave me a cooking lesson one of the first times we hung out. now with more time and pintrest..haha. i have become interested in it. so i made this for dinner..yum. unfortunately, due to some wine and good conversation i failed to take a picture of the final presentation, but it looked just like this. chicken ranch tacos
i also made homemade bread..from this recipe
and everyone said it was delicious..so it is a keeper..try it [very easy]!

lil gem
one of the big trends out right now is native american textiles. or any exotic textile. seen from the run way to the home. the key is to avoid overkill which would result in a flashback to the hippie days..these items need to be statement pieces but kept to a minimal scale within a space. they are great for adding understated color and texture. here are a few favorites
in the store..paired with comfy broken in leather chairs
and jackets on models
and bags
and blankets
and then there is this little number. she was buried under a mess of stuff. luckily lil hud dropped his toy and upon retrieval she caught my eye. now she is home. not sure where her final resting place will be [living room, guest-bedroom, ect}, but that is ok we will figure it out.
happy friday friends. i hope your weekend is full of adventure. relaxation. family and friends. we are getting ready for special guests. yes, the eddy's are coming for the weekend!

better in heels
i am really thankful i am able to stay at home with lil hudson, but there are somethings i really miss about working [although...raising a newborn/infant is much more tiring and harder than the 9-5 ever was]. one of these is being forced to get out of my pj's because it is oh so temping and easy to stay in them. i do really have a better day when i make myself get dressed and go somewhere. i try to not get out excessively because it is flu season and hud is only 4 months old. luckily we have had a very uncharacteristically warm winter for KY so we have been able to do a few things. one thing hudson is great at..shopping. well i guess he doesn't have a choice, but he seems to enjoy looking at lights, goodies, and people..so that is reason enough for me.
hud ready to go
so today. we got up early. i put on wedge platforms [amazingly not my usual flats] and skinny jeans.dressed lil dude and we took off.
i have been meaning torestock launch my etsy shop for awhile now..only problem is i have a little problem letting go of my finds. this is going to change [it has to the mr. said so..or nothing else can come home]. except for the amazing gem i found today..pretty sure she is staying [ill post a pic tomorrow..she is currently at the cleaners]..here is a *hint
photo challenge day 16: something new

tease
remember this post.i found them. milo baughman etagere..now i rob a bank or play the waiting game
$1200..painful
2
$2500..really painful..of course 1stdibs
or...wait and find one like this beauty on craigslist for $150...if i could be so lucky and live in FL!
or...this..and to think the owner ruined it with cheap silver paint. unbelievable
now my problem is time. i can try my best to search for them online. or pray that one shows up in our local consignment shop [not likely...but who knows] the only problem is you need to shop these places often, and well doing anything consistently these days is out of the question. showering. napping. eating come first. in other words my pre-baby self would have searched every craigslist from here to TX and would have hopped in the truck to go pick this beauty up..not happening now. so i plan to put $back monthly in the mean time, and search as i am able..hoping lexington, memphis, and nashville pull through. if not i guess ill drop the bank on one of these. cause i am in love. considering the likely hood of running across two of these is 0%..i am working on a plan b for the living room [will post this soon...mr. b its a big project]
here is another inspirational photo. love

shots
shots of love. shots for baby. shots for momma
today is a big day! i happen to heart valentines day for many reasons. i liked it as a kid. i liked it even when i was single. liked it when i had a boyfriend. and especially like it with mr. b. it is fun to have a day devoted to love and all things red/pink [family love, friend love, baby love, and lover love] this day was sorta over shadowed at my house growing up because it happens to also be my dad's birthday...so...HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAPA! we love you so much.
although, it was my dad's special day my mom was always the best at leaving us little surprises for vday. although, i am 28 she still continues to surprise..i got this sweet necklace and this book [which i hope to read before the movie comes out in march..i am a big believer of reading a book before seeing the movie]
she had the heart placed over lexington
love this garland found here
and this sweet card found here

my in-laws gave us a gift card to a restaurant...which we will be using soon!..and i am sure they will be up for babysitting sweet hud
b is still at work so i wont post his valentine from me...just in case he checks this...but it is good, and i hid it well because i knew he would look for it while i was away. he was the type that would talk 'santa' into an early delivery..ha.
so that was a lot of love :) now for the not so fun part of the day. hudson is 4months!! yay....but with that came his 4month checkup and 4month shots..poor lil hud.
now i did just fine at his first set of shots. didn't cry. i hated to see him upset, but knew they were good for him so it didn't affect me. well i didn't cry this time, but i made the mistake of looking down at the needle [long one i might add] and then watched the whole thing jab into my sweet baby's leg. i felt so bad for him. he even kicked on the second leg and the needle scratched him pretty bad. the nurse felt awful. so he is being cuddled extra today. was given a shot of tylenol. and seems to be just a little cranky. but i for sure needed a shot of tequila afterwards.
happy valentines day! xoxo
